  • PDF

Chief MTAPU

Chief joins Brightsign, flixio and Philips to provide visitors to the upcoming InfoComm 2011 with a visual treat: a massive digital video arch that will be on display in the Digital Signage Pavilion.

The arch, consisting of Brightsign digital controllers, Philips commercial displays, flixio content and Chief’s award winning Fusion mounts, will reach a height of 108 feet (33 meters) and span more than 139 feet in length (42 meters).

The seven Philips displays will be held in place by Chief’s Fusion Flat Panel Portrait Tilt Wall Mounts (MTAPU), creating a seamless, quick install that’s perfectly aligned. The MTAPU includes time-saving features that will aid in reducing the cost of construction of the digital archway.

The innovative Fusion series offers installers a number of beneficial features, including Controlzone leveling, an industry-first feature that allows installers to level displays even after installation. The Fusion series also offers Centerless Shift capabilities, providing installers the flexibility of 17.5 inches of lateral shift, thereby providing limitless centering capabilities.

Chief also provided the newly designed PAC260 digital media player mounts for the media players that will provide synchronized video for the display. The PAC260 is rated to hold components weighing up to 30 pounds (13.6 kg) and will be available in several configurations. This new solution allows installers to mount digital media players directly to a 100 x 100 VESA mount, an existing wall mount or a pole mount. It is scheduled to ship later this year.

Ultra HD LCD Display

To go on display this month to the public for the first time (at NHK's Science and Technology Research Laboratories in Tokyo), Sharp in collaboration with NHK unveils the world's first Super Hi-Vision LCD display, an 85" LCD with a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels (or 16X the resolution of HDTV)..

In previous demos of its ultra High Definition broadcast, NHK were compelled to use a projector, but now Sharp's display supports 10-bit color depth for each channel as well as refresh rate of 60Hz.

NHK will make trial broadcasts of this next gen broadcast format in 2020 in Japan. Or you might see some of that 33MP video and 22.2 channel sound in some demos during the 2010 Olympics (BBC plans to use SHV technology to broadcast the 2012 Olympics to “large TV sets placed in public areas” across Britain. SHV requires 60” screens to view any difference, according to NHK.)

C3266PW

3M will exhibit a range of multi-touch displays based on 3M Projected Capacitive Technology (3M PCT) at Kiosk Europe Expo 2011. Highlights will include 22” and 32” multi-touch displays in kiosk and table applications. 3M will also demonstrate its recently launched Smart Pen, an input device providing precision accuracy for users of popular capacitive touch smart phones and tablets.

3M PCT multi-touch technology can register up to 60 simultaneous touch events with less than 12-ms response time, making it one of the fastest solutions. The products highlight touch technology for single, multi-user and collaborative applications, including audio/visual, casino gaming, digital signage, education, media and broadcast, security, telecom and utilities.

Stand demos will include the new 32” C3266PW chassis, featuring a 1080p HD wide viewing-angle LCD with 10-finger and 2-palm multi-touch capability, and various 22” multi-touch displays (the M2256PW desktop and M2254PW chassis).

Also on show will be: SCT3250EX (5.7” to 32” display sizes), SCT7650EX (vandal-prone and rugged applications) and C2234SW (robust metal chassis housing). In addition, the DST2270DX (dispersive signal technology for 32” to 55” displays) will be demonstrated.

Dimenco: 52” Glasses-free 3D Display

  • PDF

Dimenco

Remember that glasses-free 3D technology that Philips closed? Dimenco is an independent company based in Veldhoven (near the Philips Mecca of Eindhoven) founded by four young Dutch folks that all worked together at a former venture on 3D autostereoscopic technology. Dimenco also acquired a 3D technology license from Philips, enabling them to commercially use and further develop this technology.

Dimenco with a solutions partner, Triaxes Vision, provided a total solution for an immersive glasses-free 3D video experience during NAB. Triaxes Vision is up-and-coming software company that solves the challenges in 2D+Depth content preparation.

Current 3D technologies use 2 video channels (L&R) that is enough for glasses-type 3D.To get a realistic glasses-free 3D effect, films will have to be shot from up to 8 and more different positions, making next-gen content preparation complicated in terms of production and editing. Depth maps offer the solution to this problem by generating the number of channels required. With depth map technology, 3D output can be generated for both glasses and glasses-free equipment.

Until now, 3D auto-stereoscopic (glasses-free) displays were only used in professional industries, such as advertising, visualization, and interactive applications. The reasons why lenticular displays aren’t widely adopted in consumer applications is the loss of 3D resolution and the difficulty to prepare the input content of the appropriate format.

Dimenco and Triaxes Vision solve these drawbacks with their solution. By introducing their new 52?, Dimenco is able to show a proven3D auto-stereoscopic display. Inside the display Dimenco’s rendering core enables the display to use the 2D+Depth as an input format to reach significant results. The Dimenco control tool enables the user to adapt the enables the user to adapt the required viewing distance, amount of depth, offset and all in real-time.
