Peerless-AV Acquires Ciil Technologies

Ciil

Peerless-AV acquires Ciil Technologies, a manufacturer of environmental/weatherproof outdoor TVs and displays marketed under the UltraView and Xtreme brand names.

Why is a mount company buying an outdoor displays company? Michael Campagna, president of the Peerless Technology Division, says “Our goal is to build a global technology business on a par with our global AV mounting solutions business. Acquiring Ciil is a key building block in that process.”

“The market for outdoor TVs is growing rapidly in commercial settings, where weatherproof displays are replacing expensive enclosures, as well as in residential environments, where the backyard has become the new living room…” he adds.

“At the same time, this is a strategic acquisition that extends the investment in emerging technology that led to last month’s announcement that we have formed a separate technology division…”

At ISE, Peerless-AV Europe’s press conference also highlighted their intention to become a broader supplier of AV solutions.

Intel Shows Off “Display-as-a-Service”

Intel DaaS

At CeBIT, Intel showed off Display-as-a-Service (DaaS) that enables a device to use any display on a network.

With DaaS, people will show what's on their tablet on a big-screen TV, or mirror the same images on multiple displays, or link up multiple displays to create a single, bigger display.

They can also combine multiple devices' video onto a single screen so a whole family can work together on multiple projects.

Intel not only demonstrated the technology at CeBIT but also showed off a small box that brings the technology to displays that don't even have the required IP address.

ProNet.precision

projectiondesign’s ProNet.precision automatic projector alignment software claims to speed up alignment of multichannel projection systems such as those used in collaboration, command center and visualization rooms. The system uses sophisticated computing processing and digital camera capture to calibrate and align projectors according to surrounding architecture.

The ProNet.precision application is part of projectiondesign’s ProNet software ecosystem, which integrates with the projectiondesign series of projectors and image processors, with building blocks for planning and design, installation and execution, as well as use and monitoring. The system offers remote control over the Internet or local control.

Eiki ProSwitch 400S

At ISE, NEC Display Solutions Europe showcased the broadest collection of display products and solution portfolios ever, highlighting more than a decade of innovation and development. We spoke to Simon Jackson, VP for NEC Display Solutions who told us the stand especially showed off NEC’s vertical focus programme.

The company targets at least 16 verticals and provides dedicated resources, including building an ecosystem and aligning solution partners. “We go out to end users and generate our own demand to bring back to our channel who we need for their ability to add value,” says Jackson.

This year's stand includes the PIXEL MACHINE – a giant videowall made up of 23 55-inch large format displays run by Hiperwall – and a live demo of VUKUNET – the recently launched automated ad serving platform for the DOOH Industry. (We’ll have an article about VUKUNET at ISE 2013 in our next issue.)

Barco OBLX-55

The OBLX-55 is a Barco LCD video wall structure, capable of holding 55" panels in a 2x2 landscape mode setup. Alternatively, a 3x1 wall in portrait mode is possible.

Being a free-standing structure, the OBLX-55 can be integrated at any location - not only if it is attached to the building. This further expands the applicability of video walls, allowing them to be placed in shop windows, at art exhibitions, and in temporary crisis coordination centers.

The design trim protects the sensitive narrow-bezel LCD edges making the walls less vulnerable for contact.
