Calibration Software to Match Displays in Video Walls

CalMAN 5

SpectraCal’s CalMAN 5 video display calibration software correctly matches displays in video walls.

“Multi-panel display walls are revolutionizing commercial A/V, however all the displays in the video wall must be correctly calibrated” explains Todd M.Sames, SpectraCal’s Sales Director.

“When you’ve only got one panel on a wall, few people passing by will notice if it’s a little too blue,” says Joel Silver, leader of the Imaging Science Foundation. “But if you have nine panels in a three-by-three array, it’s painfully obvious if Panel 5 is bluer than the rest.”

Nearly all commercial AV integrators can relate tales of spending hours longer than bid trying to make panels match, hours that resulted in only barely acceptable matches.

“With CalMAN 5, you can match panels in a fraction of the time previously required,” Sames adds. “And get better results.”

 Muncaster Castle

Situated on the edge of the UK’s Lake District, Muncaster Castle (that’s Muncaster not Munsters Castle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Munsters) is considered one of the most haunted buildings in the country. Halloween Week is the busiest time of year for the castle, and Dataton Watchout production and presentation software drive its exterior illuminations to add to the fright.

This year the Castle upgraded to version 5 of Watchout….Peter Frost-Pennington, managing director of Muncaster Castle, says, “Back in 2003 we decided to put in an exterior lighting scheme to enhance the air of mystery surrounding the venue. The towers of the Castle are an interesting backdrop. We started projecting a few images of skulls and ghosts created in Powerpoint and run by Windows Media Player. But we always knew we could do more. We’d seen the projections that were done as part of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee using Watchout, and we wanted that too.

Laser Projector with 72,000 lumens

The last record for lumens in laser projection was Christie’s own 63,000 lumen record set at IBC Show in September. Now Christie raises the bar again for achieving the world’s brightest laser projection.

in Beijing, Christie did a demo of its prototype laser projector: World’s first 72,000 lumen laser projection. Short movie clips of 3D content projected on a 20-metre wide by 12-metre high screen were screened at typical 3D brightness levels of 3-4 ft-L and then using the laser projector at 14 ft-L at the theater of Wanda Shi Jin Shan Cinema, leaving the audiences in awe.

“Today’s laser projection demo was fabulous! I’m impressed with the ultra brightness and life-like colours delivered onto the screen,” says Ning Ye, General Manager of Wanda Group.

Presenting at the laser demo event, Dr. Don Shaw, senior director, Product Management, Christie Entertainment Solutions, notes, “Audiences deserve to see the brightest 3D with 14 ft-L on cinema screens. Our demonstration today showed just how truly spectacular a movie maker’s vision can be realised when shown at the highest light levels, making the shared experience more immersive, and, ultimately, driving more cinema ticket sales.”

MultiSync X551UN

NEC Display Solutions Europe is the display technology sponsor for the exhibition David Hockney. A Bigger Picture at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne.

Running to 3rd February 2013, the show will feature a range of the artist's wide-ranging portfolio displayed across more than 70 of NEC's pro MultiSync X551UN large format displays. In addition, 13 units of NEC MultiSync EA273WM are used to display Hockney's digital artwork.

Along with traditional painting techniques, Hockney has engaged intensively with computer drawing. The images generated in this way are a major feature of the Cologne exhibition and possess an extraordinary vibrancy and immediacy, but their synthetic nature also gives them a strangely unreal aura.

One of the highlights of the exhibition shows twelve jugglers performing in video projections on an 18-screen videowall, providing an unexpected take on the perception of motion in time and space.

GE Display Helps Passengers Take Flight

  • PDF

Mine Flight

If you pass through Canada's Toronto airport terminal, you might see passengers flapping their wings like birds.

No, it’s not the frustration of delayed flights…it's part of the entertainment brought about by GE Canada's Mine Flight, an interactive, gesture-controlled display that creates an interactive 3D "flight" experience at Toronto Pearson Airport, Terminal 1.

Yes, we said a “Mine” flight. If an underground location and an aboveground activity confuse you, consider that it’s just a game.

How do a mine and flight go together? Well, GE Canada is in the mining business and they wanted a way to interact with Toronto’s 9.4 million passengers annually. Mine Flight may sound like an illiterate traveler but it was developed by GE's creative and media partners, BBDO and OMD, along with Belgian agency Brandfirst who created the game.
